Welcome to Soundscape Napa

in California's Napa Valley

Soundscape Napa was created by Mick Winter as a project for Sonic Media, a module in the Masters of Arts in Creative Media program at the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom. The module instructor and program leader is Professor Tara Brabazon.

The purpose of the soundmap is to give residents and visitors an aural sampling of the varied and multi-textured sounds of the city and community of Napa, California.

To use this "soundmap" of Napa, either click on a sound location from the Directory dropdown list, or scroll through the map and move your cursor over one of the markers. You'll see a photograph of the location, descriptive text, and a media player which will play a sound recording made at the location.

Caution: You may want to lower the volume immediately on a few of these, such as Demptos, Leaf Blower or the Recycling Truck. Their normal sounds are quite loud.

A paper was also submitted for the project. If you'd like, you can download the Soundscape Napa paper as a PDF file.
